What is the difference between a transmission service and a transmission flush?
The difference between the two is, a transmission service usually involves removing the transmission pan and changing the filter, the pan gasket and the transmission fluid. Setting any adjustments, and a road test for proper operation. Commonly, about 4-6 quarts of fluid are drained and replaced, depending on your specific vehicle. A transmission flush consists of evacuating all of your transmission fluid and exchanging it with new. We also perform the basic transmission service at this time. The filter and pan gasket are also replaced if applicable. Other shops do not service the filter during a flush. During a transmission service, the condition of the internals of the transmission can be determined. Some particles in the transmission pan are normal, usually collected around the magnet. But, heavy contamination and debris in the transmission pan is almost a sure sign of a transmission that is failing. It's good practice to have your transmission serviced at regular intervals for the reliability of having a safe, dependable vehicle.
